![]() ![]() Wagner became just the sixth Michigan player since 1984 to log at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in an NCAA Tournament game. It was far from one of his best offensive games in a Michigan uniform, but the stat line puts him in rare company among his Wolverine peers. He finished the day with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. ![]() Sophomore wing Franz Wagner unsurprisingly played a major role in that. Not only have they dominated offensively by being the only squad to average over 100 points per game, but they’ve also cruised defensively by forcing more steals than any other team. The Michigan Wolverines advanced to the program’s fourth Elite Eight appearance since 2013 with a 76-58 victory over Florida State on Sunday evening. This group has undoubtedly played like the World Cup favorite for the bulk of the tournament. On the international stage, it’s gold medal or bust for Team USA. □ 16 PTS | 8 REB | 3 AST | 22 EFF #FIBAWC x #WinForDeutschland □□ | #InspireGreatness /I1DJFvYtQU- FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 □ September 6, 2023 NBA Talent: Dennis Schroder (Raptors), Daniel Theis (Pacers), Franz Wagner (Magic), Mo Wagner (Magic)įranz Wagner returned to Germany's lineup with a bang to send his squad to the Semi-Finals and earn TCL Player of the Game honors □ I’d expect Team Germany to lean on his fresh legs heavily in this upcoming matchup. As for Franz, he played only his second game of the tournament against Latvia after dealing with an injury and dropped 16 points with 8 rebounds. Schroder has averaged 18.0 points with 6.3 assists. Aside from Schroder’s ugly 4-26 shooting effort against Latvia, the Raptors point guard has been red-hot this tournament. Team USA will also have to keep a close eye on Schroder and Wagner. One of the most significant flaws for the US thus far has been their inability to command the glass, so I expect this to be a major point of emphasis for Germany this Friday. While Germany isn’t the biggest team, players like Daniel Theis and Mo Wagner can undoubtedly give Team USA fits inside. ![]() Germany has committed just 61 TOVs thus far, which is the third-fewest in the World Cup. They’re also currently the only undefeated team left, and a big reason for that is their ability to take care of the rock. Led by the Wagner brothers and point guard Dennis Schroder, this is a team that plays smart and physical basketball. While they’ve looked a bit less dominant at times during the tournament, there is no question they’re talented enough to give Team USA a tough time. Team Germany barely squeaked past an impressive Latvia squad to secure their place in the semifinals. □ 31 PTS | 10 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 67% FG | 40 EFF #FIBAWC x #WinForCanada □□ | #InspireGreatness /WeSThagWll- FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 □ September 6, 2023 There were no answers for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who popped off to take Canada to the Semi-Finals and earn TCL Player of the Game honors □ NBA Talent: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder), RJ Barrett (Knicks, Dillon Brooks (Rockets), Lu Dort (Thunder), Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Timberwolves), Dwight Powell (Mavericks), Kelly Olynyk (Jazz) Team Canada is one of the deepest teams left in the bracket, as their entire starting five features NBA players. He’s also shot 54.7 percent from the field across the six games, including his excellent 8-12 showing against Slovenia in the quarterfinals. He’s averaged 25 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has carried over his success from the 2022-23 season into this World Cup. Meanwhile, there is a strong case to make that they have the single-best player in the Tournament this year. We have yet to see them allow a single opponent to score more than 89 points in a game, and they just did a very solid job holding Luka Doncic and Slovenia to 43.9 percent shooting from the field. ![]() They have noticeably been one of the most well-rounded groups on the floor. ![]()
