![]() ![]() The developer is not allowed to commence on any actual demolition works, such as the removal of external walls or load-bearing internal walls, the roof or roof support structures, until all the pre-development conditions issued by Wicklow County Council have been met. This work doesn’t require planning permission and can therefore b e carried out before the full development starts. In the meantime, the work currently underway involves the clearing out of the interiors (furniture, fixtures, etc) of those later, additional buildings. With all the pre-development conditions still being addressed, the full development is not yet ready to commence. The permission allows The La Touche Hotel to be converted into 5 4-storey town houses, as well as t he construction of a further 26 houses on the remaining lands. Huzzah! According to Sorcha, the February 2016 planning permission granted by Wicklow County Council (and An Bord Pleanala, after an appeal) for the redevelopment of the site allowed the developer to demolish all of the ‘newer’ parts of the building but not the original 4-storey Victorial hotel. The original four walls of The La Touche Hotel must remain as they are, with the new town houses having to be built inside the original facade. The good news is, turns out these shakers were flakers. The original Preservation Order on the main hotel having been changed to an Architectural Conservation Areas, we were told by two separate Greystones shakers that this meant the developer need only reconstruct a building that aped the original 123-year-old hotel. Through chats, emails and telephone conversations with various makers, shakers and flakers in this town, we had been led to believe that the grand old La Touche Hotel would, as part of the current demolition works being carried out, soon be reduced to rubble. ![]() Which, you might be shocked to discover, isn’t actually an oxymoron. Beautiful people like Sorcha Walsh, who looks after Forward Planning in Wicklow County Council. God’s honest truth! Thankfully, we also meet people who are just one degree of separation away from the news they’re sharing with GG. People who have heard it from someone whose sister is dating a guy who overheard a conversation on the Dart about someone about to turn Mrs Mooney’s old place into a massage parlour. 1.1K Our work as an amateur sleuth around the mean streets of Greystones can bring us into contact with all sorts of feckers. ![]()
